Activists in Sarnia shut down Line 9, the crude oil pipeline belonging to Enbridge this morning. The outage lasted 90 minutes but the company says deliveries have not been affected and the flow continues.
The “land defenders”, as they call themselves, say it wasn’t hard to get into the fenced in valve site where they locked themselves to the equipment.
The activists called the company once they were established. Shortly after, police arrived and took three demonstrators into custody.
A spokesman for the “land defenders” says First Nations along the pipeline route were not properly consulted about the project which they deem an environmental disaster.
