ANTIDEPRESSANTS, PREGNANCY AND AUTISM POSSIBLE CONNECTION

Antidepressant use during pregnancy – could increase the risk of the baby being born with autism spectrum.

That’s the suggestion from a study by the University of Montreal which found that taking antidepressants of any kind while pregnant –  boosts the risk that a child will be diagnosed with A-S-D by age seven.

The drugs include Prozac, Zoloft and Celexa.

But the study suggests the risk doubles with drugs known as “selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors,” or S-S-R-Is, when they are taken by women during the second and third trimesters.
