A five percent GO Transit fare hike will be debated today at the Metrolinx board meeting.
Under the proposal, fares for the shortest trips in GO’s system would be frozen, but fares for longer distance trips would increase by 40 to 60 cents.
GO Transit President Greg Percy says “the increase will be used to fund new service improvements as well as offset increasing costs from annual escalation of operating contracts.”
If approved, the fare increase would take effect February 1st.
Metrolinx board members will also consider an increased discount for Presto electronic fare card users on the GO Transit system and a fare price drop for the Union Pearson Express.
