The Trudeau government is expected to drop the niqab appeal tomorrow.

The expectaion is that Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould will formally withdraw the federal government’s request for an appeal – of a court decision which had a huge impact on the recent federal election campaign.

The Conservatives decided in mid-campaign to fight a Federal Court of Appeal decision – which said women were allowed to wear face veils such as the niqab – when attending the ceremony that made them a citizen of Canada.

The federal government has, under the Supreme Court Act, 60 days from the day of the judgment to file all supporting materials.

That’s tomorrow.
