It may be good for your health to raise a glass of champagne over the Christmas holidays.
Scientists in the UK have found one or two glasses a week may help prevent dementia and Alzheimer’s.
A compound found in Pinot noir and Pinot meunier grapes is said to prevent the onset of the diseases.
The findings are based on experiments on rats, but researchers at Reading University hope to carry out the experiment on pensioners.
They say those who regularly drink champagne up to three times each week could also boost thier spatial memory.
Professor Jeremy Spencer says the results are dramatic.
”The research is exciting because it illustrates for the first time that moderate consumption of champagne has the potential to influence cognitive functioning such as memory.”
