Tonight the weather changes, as a moisture laden fall storm with rain and gusty winds begins to move into Southern Ontario.

A special weather statement from Environment Canada says a low pressure area over Louisiana containing moisture from the remnants of Hurricane Patricia is starting to move northward toward the Great Lakes.

Rainfall associated with this storm is forecast to spread into Southwestern Ontario late tonight and reach the Golden Horseshoe area by tomorrow morning. Precipitation will then spread across Central and Eastern Ontario through the day tomorrow.

The rainfall may be heavy at times with a few thunderstorms also possible.

Total rainfall amounts are still somewhat uncertain, but between 25 and 40 millimetres are likely in most areas by the time the rain tapers to scattered showers tomorrow night into Thursday. Locally higher amounts of 40 to 50 mm are possible, especially near Lakes Erie and Ontario.

Additionally, strong and gusty southwesterly winds are forecast to develop tomorrow over Southwestern Ontario then tomorrow night over remaining parts of Southern Ontario. Wind gusts to 70 km/h are likely in most areas. Even stronger winds are quite possible near the eastern ends of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, where wind gusts may approach the warning threshold of 90 km/h.
