October first brings new oversight to movies, videos and D-V-D’s – that are screened and distributed in the province.
The new Ontario Film Authority will be responsible for licensing theatres.
The agency will also oversee the operations of the Ontario Film Review Board – which classifies films.
The Wynne government says there will not be any changes to Ontario’s existing film classification system – which carries five categories: G, P-G, 14-A, 18-A and R.
The government says the new body will be more effective – and will reduce the regulatory burden on the film sector and businesses.
