If Justin Trudeau’s Liberals win the October 19th election, the party forecasts three years of deficits — $9.9-billion in 2016-17, $9.5-billion in 2017-18, $5.7-billion in 2018-19 then a $1-billion surplus in 2019-20.
This is the overview of the Liberals fiscal plan.
It is not the party’s full campaign platform.
That will be released later.
Liberal candidate and former finance minister Ralph Goodale says the plan will create jobs and economic growth.
The 15-page document does not say what the party would do with federal health transfers.
Again that’s to be announced later.
The Liberals are the only major party calling for deficits.
The Conservatives and NDP are promising to balance the books every year.
Ottawa ran a $1.9-billion surplus in 2014-15 after six years in the red.
