Maxime Giroux’s “Felix et Meira” gets the nod as Canada’s Oscar hopeful – in the best foreign-language film category.

The movie stars Martin Dubreuil and Hadas Yaron – and explores the relationship between a married Orthodox Jewish woman in Montreal – and a man mourning his father’s death.

The Telefilm Canada selection was made by a committee of 23 voting members – who represent major government agencies – as well as associations in the film industry.

Canada has had four nominees compete in the category in the past six years.

They include Denis Villeneuve’s “Incendies,” Agnieszka Holland’s co-production “In Darkness,” and Philippe Falardeau’s “Monsieur Lazhar.”
