Silk screen Canadian landscapes, intended to remind Second World War troops of home, have gone on display at the University of Calgary’s Founders’ Gallery.
A.Y. Jackson launched the idea in 1942 and then recruited Group of Seven peers like A.J. Casson, Emily Carr and Lawren Harris for the effort which was supported by the National Gallery and the Department of National Defence.
In all some 98 pieces make up the exhibit, which is half wartime, half post-war. Most pieces are on loan from the Pegasus Gallery of Canadian Art on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia.
