There appears to be a sliver of light in the Ukraine crisis.

Leaders of Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine have come together on a conference call – to discuss implementation of a peace deal for eastern Ukraine.

According to The Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin conferred with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko about the pullout of weapons – and offering a special status for the rebel regions – as well as other issues related to February’s peace deal.

Putin is said to have particularly emphasized the need for a direct dialogue –  between the Ukrainian government and the rebel territories.

Foreign ministers of the four nations will continue discussions in Berlin this weekend – and the four heads of state are to meet in Paris on October 2nd.
