Captain James T. Kirk you won’t believe what Buzz Aldrin is up to.
The 85-year old former astronaut will work with Florida Institute of Technology to come up with a ”master plan” for colonizing Mars within 25 years.
Aldrin will serve as a research professor of aeronautics as well as a senior faculty adviser for the school which is in Melbourne, less than an hour’s drive from the Kennedy Space Center.
He’s been promoting the concept of a ”Mars Cycler” – a spacecraft system with perpetual cycling orbits between here and the red planet.
Aldrin’s urged Congress to fund efforts to establish a human colony on Mars, saying it’s vital if America wants to maintain its leadership role in space exploration.
He’s pushing for 2039, the 70th anniversary of his own Apollo 11 moon landing when he followed Neil Armstrong onto the moon’s surface July 20, 1969.
