AS TALKS RESUME, PREMIER TELLS TEACHERS NO SALARY INCREASES

Most unions for Ontario’s 115,000 teachers have returned to the bargaining table.
The Secondary School Teachers’ Federation is the first.
The English Catholic Teachers are to resume Thursday and the Elementary Teachers’ Federation goes back September 1.
As a new school year approaches and the threats of job action loom, the two sides have not started talking about the government’s demand for a ”net zero” wage increase.
Premier Wynne
Premier Kathleen Wynne says the province will not fund any public sector pay hikes until the $11.9-billion deficit is eliminated.
Unions representing police, firefighters, municipal employees, hospital workers and nurses in many communities have reached deals this year with salary increases or have been awarded more money by arbitrators.
