Nigel Wright told the packed Ottawa courtroom, he did not tell Stephen Harper about the failed plan that would have seen the Conservative party pick up the tab for the senator’s questionable expenses.
He testified he did not think he was doing anything wrong, describing how he had paid for many things within the prime minister’s office out of his pocket, rather than charging them to taxpayers.
Harper was asked about the testimony during a campaign stop in Vancouver.
He says once the expenses were repaid, it was his belief Duffy had taken care of it himself.
When he found out Wright had actually made the payment on Duffy’s behalf, Harper says he made that public and ”took the appropriate action.”
