Ahead of an expected federal election call this weekend, some political observers say the Harper Conservatives can afford to run a longer campaign.
Here’s proof.
Elections Canada says the Tories have raised $7.4-million from 45,532 donors in the second quarter or spring.
That’s up from $6.3-million collected from 41,161 supporters in the first quarter.
The NDP’s next with $4.5-million courtesy of 48,134 donors in the first three months of the year – its best quarter showing ever, both in money and number of donors.
The Liberals raised $4.03-million from 32,789 supporters.
The Green Party received $760,475 from 10,824 donors.
Last year, the Conservatives raised a total of $20.1-million, the Liberals $15.1-million and NDP $9.5-million.
