Prime Minister Stephen Harper will call the election as early as this Sunday.
CBC confirms he will go to Rideau Hall either Sunday or Monday to ask the Governor-General David Johnston to dissolve Parliament.
The Conservatives have already sent out invites to supporters for a rally in Montreal Sunday night.
Harper would likely head to Toronto after that.
Dropping the writ more than 11 weeks before the expected October 19 voting day would make it the longest campaign in modern history.
The previous longest one was 74-days in 1926.
A typical 37-day campaign costs about $375-million.
