A Toronto theatre company is getting 1.5 million dollars from the province.
The money will help launch a permanent touring repertory theatre.
The award-winning Soulpepper Theatre Company will get the funding over four years – so it can take its live performances to communities across Ontario.
The Wynne government says the project will create about 100 new jobs for theatre professionals – and will help to grow local theatre audiences – as well as boosting tourism.
Soulpepper founding artistic director Albert Schultz says the company will also share its skills and knowledge with the areas it visits – through training workshops – and by reaching out to young people that don’t often get to see theatre in their communities.
