A bomb threat against a WestJet flight is the fourth such incident at the airline this week, and the fifth time in recent days involving a Canadian airliner.

A WestJet plane carrying 35 people from Vancouver to Toronto was diverted to Calgary last night because of a bomb threat which the airline says was a hoax.  Police searched the 7-37, and declared it safe after no explosives were found.

On Tuesday night, a flight from Toronto to Saskatoon was the target of a bomb threat, but police in Saskatoon say no explosive devices were found after the plane was searched.

WestJet has tweeted that these false threats are criminal investigations.  They include a probe of threats involving an Air Canada flight in St. John’s last Thursday and two other West jet flights.

WestJet in fact, has tweeted a number of times in the last several hours, reassuring that safety remains the airline’s top priority.

Transport Minister Lisa Raitt said in an email, that “the safety of Canadians is a top priority and that airlines and airports have protocols in place for dealing with these sorts of threats.”
