The was a major commuter headache for drivers on the westbound Gardiner Expressway early today.  The highway was closed west of Parklawn for about four and a half hours.

Constable Clint Stibbe of Toronto Police Traffic Services says a man has been arrested and is facing an alcohol related charge.

“At approximately 3:37 this morning, an Acura was westbound on the Gardiner Expressway and struck one of the construction vehicles, or what we call safety vehicles for the road crew that was working.  After that Acura struck that vehicle, it veered to the right and another westbound vehicle was hit by the Acura.  As a result that second vehicle went out of control striking the guardrail and rolling over,” Stibbe explained.

Six people were sent to hospital with injuries ranging from minor to serious, but none of them life threatening.  The Gardiner re-opened just before 8am.
