Viagra is not just for men anymore. The search for a so-called “female Viagra” has taken a major step forward. Researchers at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration are recommending approval of a pill to boost sexual desire in women.
A panel of FDA advisers voted in favour of Sprout Pharmaceutical’s daily pill on the condition that the company develops a plan to manage its risks, which include side effects such as fatigue, low blood pressure and fainting.
The Food and Drug Administration has twice rejected the drug since 2010.
Thursday’s vote is non-binding but the FDA often follows the advice of its experts, and an official decision is expected in August.
