The Toronto International Film Festival is recognizing the next generation of filmmakers – with a $25,000 prize.
TIFF’s new competitive program called “Platform” will put the spotlight on “artistically ambitious international films.”
Up to 12 movies will be honored “of high artistic merit that demonstrate a strong directorial vision by significant international filmmakers.”
Three experts will make up an international jury – and will award the cash prize to the best film in the “Platform” program.
TIFF artistic director Cameron Bailey says the goal is to highlight high-quality international cinema – and give the next generation of filmmakers a chance to increase their global profile.
The 40th Toronto International Film Festival runs September 10th to 20th.
