It wasn’t a record, but a Vincent van Gogh painting of an fall scene in the south of France has fetched more than $66 million at a Sotheby’s auction in New York.  The painting, “The Allee of Alyscamps” was done in 1888 during a two-month period when van Gogh and Paul Gauguin worked side-by-side in Arles, France.  The auction record for a van Gogh painting is $82.5 million.
