Quebec film director Denis Villeneuve’s longtime dream has come true.

The filmmaker’s star-studded English-language project “Sicario” is headed to the Cannes Film Festival – to compete for the Palme d’or against 16 other films.

Villeneuve’s movies include the Oscar-nominated “Incendies.”

The director says Cannes is the biggest and most prestigious festival in the world – and going there is an old dream of his which he’s cherished for a long time.

He also says he’s really moved that he’ll be able to participate this year with this film – especially because he wasn’t expecting to be chosen.

Villeneuve’s latest feature is set along the border between Mexico and the United States –  and follows an FBI agent battling the brutal world of international drug trafficking.

The Cannes festival runs May 13th to 24th.
