It’s an historic announcement.
The United States, Iran and five other world powers have reached an understanding – that will direct them toward achieving a comprehensive nuclear agreement- within three months.
European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini says in a statement that a “decisive step” has been achieved – leading to an agreement on a framework outlining limits on Tehran’s nuclear program.
And U.S. president Barack Obama says verification mechanisms built into the framework will ensure that ”if Iran cheats, the world will know it.”
Meanwhile – Israel’s prime minister is demanding that the deal significantly slow down Iran’s nuclear program.
Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted before negotiators made their statement in Switzerland that “any deal must significantly roll back Iran’s nuclear capabilities and stop its terrorism and agression.”
