Starting today, paramedics in Peel Region will administer the Canadian-made drug NA-1 or a placebo in an experiment involving over 500 patients across Peel.

The city of Toronto will follow next month.

NA-1 is a class of stroke medication that almost every major drug company has tried to launch but failed.

It was discovered by the Canadian company NoNO, which is confident the drug will be able to curb the effects of stroke much faster.

In previous trials it’s demonstrated positive results and there were no serious side effects.

Final results of the study are expected in about two years.
