Canada’s unemployment rate has climbed to 6.8% with Stats Canada pointing the blame at Alberta which showing its first significant employment decline since the global oil slump.  Statistics Canada’s latest labour market survey says the country’s jobless rate crept up from 6.6% in January, even though it only registered a month-to-month net loss of 1,000 jobs.  Stats Can says the unemployment rate in February rose because, while the labour force grew by 49,200 people, the number of unemployed was even greater at 50,200.   The unemployment rate came in higher than analysts predicted.  They were also looking for a net loss of some 5,000 jobs.  Provincially, Ontario’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 6.9 %, while Toronto’s unemployment rate declined from 7.8% to 7.6%.
