“King Lear” may be a tragedy, but the Stratford Festival’s recent screening of it in theatres – was anything but.

The festival says last month’s run in select Canadian theatres did really well – and it’s hoping its new film series will be “a resource for generations.”

Stratford plans to film all of Shakespeare’s plays over the next 10 years – for release in cinemas and broadcast here in Canada and around the world.

The high-definition film version of “King Lear,” stars  Colm Feore and played on more than 65 Cineplex screens in Canada on February 19th.

It was also shown on 300 screens in the U.S. on February 25th.

You still have a chance to see it though -“King Lear” runs again through Cineplex “Front Row Centre” on March 7th  and 22nd.
