ORDER OF ONTARIO RECIPIENTS INCLUDE WRITER, ASTRONAUT AND PHYSICIAN

26 Ontarians have been named to receive the province’s highest honour.

And the list of recipients of The Order of Ontario includes internationally celebrated writer and lecturer John Raulston Saul – as well as social justice advocate Barbara McQuarrie.

Also honoured is the former executive director of the Canadian branch of Doctors Without Borders, Marilyn McHarg.

Others include:

– Rick Green, co-creator of and performer on The Red Green Show

– David Williams, Canadian astronaut, physician and scientist

– Ming-Tat Cheung, a cardiologist and medical researcher who was instrumental in building the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto

– Charles Pachter, nationally recognized artist whose work as been exhibited around the world and in The Art Gallery of Ontario, The Royal Ontario Museum and the McMichael Gallery

– Eva Marszewski, founder and executive director of Peacebuilders International (Canada), an organization that provides at-risk youth an alternative to the criminal justice system.

The list was announced today by Lieutenant-Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell.
