Listeners to the New Classical FM will notice some familiar names among the Juno nominees announced by The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
In the category of “Classical Album Of The Year: Large Ensemble or Solo Accompaniment,” pianist Angela Hewitt is nominated for her recording of Mozart’s number 22 and 24 piano concertos.
In the same category, violinist James Ehnes gets the nod for his Khachaturian/Shostakovich album.
Also nominated are The Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Peter Oundjian for Rimsky-Korsakov/Sheherazade and The Montreal Symphony Orchestra and Kent Nagano for Beethoven: Symphony 1 and 7.
Joining the list is Orchestre Metropolitain and Yannick Nezet-Seguin for Bruckner 3.
Also nominated in various classical category’s are : Angele Dubeau and La Pieta, The Canadian Brass, The Theatre of Early Music, Schola Cantorum & Daniel Taylor, Jonathan Crow and Paul Stewart, Karina Gauvin, Les Violon du Roy and Bernard Labadie.
The Junos will be awarded in Hamilton on March 15th.
