It’s a sign of the times – in publishing.
Another major player is testing the subscription market.
Macmillan is making 1,000 books available to the Oyster subscription service.
The older works range from “The Language of Passion” by Nobel laureate Mario Vargas Llosa – to “Full House” by Janet Evanovich.
Publishers have been skittish about working with companies such as Amazon.com and Oyster – which offer unlimited e-reading for a monthly price of less than $10.
Harpercollins and Simon and Schuster have also been working with subscription companies – but the biggest U.S. publisher, Penguin Random House, has resisted so far.
