Randy Carlyle is no longer the coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He was fired last night following a dismal road trip – in which the Leafs lost five of seven games – and didn’t show much of a sign that they would soon get better.
Carlyle has been cut 40 games into the season, with Toronto 21-16-3 and in fourth place in the Atlantic Division.
Assistants Steve Spott and Peter Horachek will coach for Wednesday’s game against the Washington Capitals.
Carlyle went 91-68-19 in 188 games as coach over parts of four seasons.
