A Canadian was on the Greek ferry that caught fire near Albania.
An Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson says the the man, identified only as N. Pejcinovski, was among the rescued and taken to hospital.
Ten died in the blaze and 427 have been rescued, including the entire crew of 56.
Among the survivors, there were people not listed on the manifest, indicating the possibility some on board were travelling illegally.
Survivors painted a picture of panic and chaos as the blaze spread with passengers choking on the smoke and struggling to figure out how to escape to safety.
Prosecutors in Bari were opening an investigation into the cause of the fire.
