The Liberal government has officially scrapped a Second World War law that the McGuinty Liberals secretly revived – before the infamous G20 meeting back in 2010.

Police used the law to make mass “kettling” arrests during the summit in Toronto.

New legislation has been brought in to replace ” The Public Works Protection Act,”  and the government says it will protect critical infrastructure – in a way that respects civil liberties.

Ontario ombudsman Andre Marin’s blistering report concluded that it was inappropriate to use a “war measure” to give police what he called “extravagant authority.”

He also said only government insiders and police “knew that the rules of the game had changed, and they were the ones… holding the ‘go directly to jail cards.”’

The original law was designed to protect electrical facilities from enemy saboteurs in the 1940s.
