Environment Canada says much of the southern Ontario region can expect a light dusting of snow tonight.
The meteorological agency’s Special Weather Statement says five centimetres of snow is expected – as a fairly fast-moving disturbance based just west of the Great Lakes heads towards the northeast.
Areas closer to the lakes can expect to get a bit more of a snowfall, “due to enhancement off the open water.”
The agency warns the snowfall may cause trouble for drivers making evening commutes.
The snow will taper off as it moves into eastern Ontario by tonight – bringing some relief after snow squalls in many areas today that slowed traffic and closed several roads and highways.
Provincial police reported numerous collisions on the highways and are reminding motorists to take caution, reminding them that “driver error , not ‘the weather’ is the cause of most road incidents.”
