Questionable behaviour by fired CBC radio host Jian Ghomeshi was on the radar at the University of Western Ontario as far back as two years ago. According to a former student and a journalism professor, journalism students at Western in London, Ontario were cautioned against pursuing internships at Ghomeshi’s popular radio show “Q” due to concerns about his inappropriate behaviour toward young women.
Professor Jeremy Copeland told the Toronto Star the concerns stemmed from a 2012 incident in which Ghomeshi allegedly preyed on a young grad who wanted to work at Q. As a result, students were told two years ago that internships at Q were off limits. A former student says they weren’t given specifics, but were told there was concern about “overly flirty” behaviour by Ghomeshi when dealing with female university students.
Ghomeshi was fired eight days ago after his CBC bosses saw graphic evidence that the host had caused physical injury to a woman. Since then, stories of 9 women have been published accusing Ghomeshi of harassment, physical abuse and sexual assault. Three of these woman have gone to Toronto Police who have started a criminal investigation into Ghomeshi’s behaviour.
