Thornhill’s Member of Parliament is asking the Cuban government to send an imprisoned local businessman back to Canada. Peter Kent says Cy Tokmakjian could be expelled from Cuba or transferred to a Canadian facility to serve his 15 year sentence for bribery and tax evasion. The 74-year old president and founder of Vaughan-based Tokmakjian Group was detained in 2011 and eventually sentenced last week. Kdent says there isn’;t a shred of evidence against the businessman who he says proved in court that the charges were groundless. The company has called the case a “travesty of justice” and accuses Cuban officials of launching the prosecution in order to seize $100 million of the firm`s assets.
