NEW HEAD NAMED FOR OTTAWA'S NATIONAL GALLERY

The National Gallery of Canada has named Katerina Atanassova as its curator of Canadian art.

She will succeed Charles Hill, who has held the position since 1980.

Atanassova is currently exhibitions director and chief curator of the McMichael Canadian art collection in Kleinburg, Ontario.

The Bulgarian-born curator begins her new job on December 1st.

She’ll be responsible for developing the national collections of Canadian painting, sculpture, prints and drawing and decorative arts, dating up to 1980.

Atanassova will also organize exhibitions and make new acquisitions and head the reinstallation of the permanent collection of Canadian art.
