Fahim Ahmad remains behind bars at Millhaven, the maximum-security prison for men near Kingston.

A ringleader of the so-called Toronto 18, who plotted to storm Parliament and behead politicians, was denied parole after going before a panel today.

In the middle of his trial in 2010, Ahmad pleaded guilty to participating in a terrorist group, importing firearms and instructing his co-accused to carry out an activity for a terrorist group.

He received a sentence of 16 years but was credited with 8 1/2 years for the more than four years spent in custody awaiting trial.

During his trial, court heard Ahmad held training camps in the wilderness and told recruits they’d target legislative buildings in Ottawa, electrical grids and nuclear stations.

The group was rounded up in 2006 in an anti-terrorist operation that made headlines worldwide.
