The Kennedy Center has announced its honorees for 2014.
Tom Hanks will be one of the recipients. The Center says Hanks’ accessibility and charisma have put him in a class with James Stewart, Cary Grant, and Gary Cooper.
President Barack Obama will also present the award to Lily Tomlin, Balanchine-era ballerina Patricia McBride, and rock star Sting. Obama will also pay tribute to a singer he serenaded during his last election campaign.

Obama sang a line from Al Green’s 1972 hit “Let’s Stay Together” at the Appolo Theatre in 2012 with Green in the audience.
