Five years after closing for a two-year renovation in Paris – the Picasso Museum will finally open next month.
But on September 20th and 21st visitors will get a free preliminary peek at the empty mansion – before some 500 paintings are hung – including some from Picasso’s personal collection.
The state-run museum houses one of the world’s most extensive collections of the Spanish master’s work.
The museum owes its existence to the Picasso family – which donated a trove of more than 5,000 artworks after the artist’s death in 1973 – under a law permitting heirs to contribute art in lieu of tax payments.
The museum is now scheduled to open on October 25th – the 133rd anniversary of Picasso’s birth.
