The acid-tongued comic, who broke through the male-barrier of late-night talk shows and turned red carpets into danger zones, has died in hospital.
Joan Rivers was 81.
Her daughter Melissa says she was surrounded by family and friends.
Rivers was rushed to New York City’s Mount Sinai Hospital last Thursday after she went into cardiac arrest during a routine procedure at a doctor’s office.
The raspy-voiced comedian opened her early standup routines with the trademark line – ”Can we talk?”.
Rivers, who got her big break in 1965 on ”The Tonight Show: Starring Johnny Carson”, and continued to appear in clubs and on TV up until her death.
