Today is the beginning of the final Toronto city council meeting before the October 27th municipal election.  Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly admits it’ll be tough to get through the long list of agenda items up for debate.  “Because we have so many issues going through committees in July and August, we’re going to have those 400 plus to look at,” Kelly explains to the CBC, “We’re on the cusp of an election, and it may be important to some members of council to strike a policy position.  We’re going to have to depend on what I call prudent judgement.”

Among the issues up for debate; a proposed basketball training centre at Exhibition Place and a co-ordinated planning approach for revitalization of Ontario Place and Exhibition Place.  Councillors will also debate recommendations from Norm Kelly’s roundtable on gridlock and traffic congestion, the streetscape plan for the Yonge-Eglinton area and making the Union-Pearson Express fare more affordable for Toronto residents.  The meeting begins at 9:30. It’s expected to continue every day for most of the week.
