Toronto’s police chief has finally accepted an apology from Mayor Rob Ford’s brother.

Bill Blair initially declined Doug Ford’s apology because it was verbal.

It did not meet the terms laid out in a defamation notice he’d filed against the city councillor.

But the chief accepted it today after getting it in writing.

”I required that retraction in writing.  His comments that followed were neither clear nor unequivocal.  It was important to me to get a retraction and apology in writing so that there could be no confusion among those who had heard or read about Mr. Ford’s false statements.”

In the letter, Ford said ”I completely and fully apologize to Chief Blair for an inference or suggestion in my comments that he has acted in a personally dishonourable way.”

Along with the apology, Ford’s agreed to make a charitable donation of one-thousand dollars to Covenant House – which helps homeless youth in the city.

This all began when the councillor recently accused Blair of leaking information about an investigation involving the mayor as ”payback.”

The chief says he spoke with the reporter, who put out the story and was told she received the information from a non-police source.
