Former Alberta Premier Allison Redford is leaving politics altogether.
Writing in an opinion piece in two Alberta newspapers, Redford announced she is resigning her seat as MLA for Calgary-Elbow. She acknowledges she made mistakes, and says “there are many things I would have done differently.”
Redford resigned as Premier in March after an expense scandal that revealed she spent $45,000 to travel to South Africa for Nelson Mandela’s funeral. A leaked auditor’s report last week claims her staff would book government flights with bogus reservations so that Redford could fly alone. That report is expected to be made public tomorrow and could have led to more recriminations from her caucus colleagues.
