Six days after the Boeing 777 was shot down over eastern Ukraine, two military transport planes carrying 40 coffins of some of the victims have landed in Eindhoven.

A Dutch Hercules C-130 transported 16 coffins.

An Australian C-17 Globemaster carried the remains of 24.

The remains have been taken to military barracks where forensic experts will begin the painstaking work of trying to identify them.

It’s a national day of mourning in the Netherlands as nearly 200 of the close to 300 aboard Malaysia Airlines Flight MH-17 were Dutch.

There was one Canadian – a 24-year old Ajax man, who was studying medicine in Romania.

Dutch investigators say the voice recorder is damaged but has not been tampered with, while Dutch officials now in Ukraine say they’re still waiting for their security to be guaranteed before they go to the crash site.
