A family from the GTA has been directly impacted by yesterday’s downing of Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 over eastern Ukraine.

24-year old Andrei Anghel of Ajax was among the 298 killed.

Anghel, who was studying medicine in Romania, was travelling to Bali for a vacation.

His father described his son as very kind and outgoing.

Meanwhile, in Washington, President Obama said all signs point to the Russians.

”Here’s what we know so far, the evidence indicates that the plane was shot down by a surface-to-air missile, that was launched from an area that is controlled by Russian-backed separatists inside of Ukraine.”

Obama added it’s the not first time a plane’s been shot down in that region, pointing out that Russian backed separatists have shot down a Ukrainian transport plane, a Ukrainian helicopter and they claimed responsibility for shooting down a Ukrainian fighter jet.

And in the President’s words the separatists have received ”a steady flow of support from Russia.”

Something echoed by Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United Nations,Yuiry Segeyev, in remarks made to a specially called Security Council meeting.

Washington’s  calling for a credible international invesgation into this global tragedy, which the UN Security Council has endorsed.
