A 6.8-magnitude earthquake’s struck Japan’s northern coast.

Japan’s Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami advisory.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake was centered off Honshu Island, 129 kilometres east-southeast of Namie and 284 kilometres east-northeast of Tokyo.

It was 13 kilometres below the surface.

The quake struck near the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant crippled in the March 2011 quake and tsunami that left thousands dead.

Officials of the power plant are checking for any damage from today’s tremor.
