The Toronto Library Board is going to hear a range of suggestions Monday night as it looks for options on how to handle the library’s music collection. The chair of the board wants the city to become home to a dedicated music library. Michael Foderick wants to emphasize the library’s extensive music collection, by possibly housing it in its own facility. However, library staff don’t don’t want to see one of the city’s branches losing its general collection and instead is recommending promoting the collection that is mainly housed at the central reference library. They will also recommend expanding the library’s online music offerings. The Toronto library’s musical collection includes 40,000 scores, 22,000 CDs,15,000 vinyl LPs plus books, DVDs and collector’s items such as an original copy of Alexander Muir’s “The Maple Leaf Forever.”
