A surprise announcement from Amsterdam.

The German task force investigating a huge assortment of art recovered in Munich says one of the paintings is a work by Henri Matisse – that was looted by the nazis.

“Woman Sitting in an Armchair” painted in 1921- belongs to the Jewish descendants of Paris art dealer Paul Rosenberg.

The Matisse work was one of more than 1,500 items found in 2011 – in the apartment of Cornelius Gurlitt, the son of an art dealer who worked with the nazis.

Task force leader Matthias Henkel says he’s not sure how Gurlitt acquired the painting, but it’s certain it is the “rightful property” of Paul Rosenberg.

The lawyer for the Rosenberg family, says they were not informed of the finding before the announcement.
