Ontario’s Liberal Leader is promoting her Made-in-Ontario pension plan as part of her election campaign.  “A decent pension is the hallmark of a compassionate society, and I’m going to be very frank,” Kathleen Wynne explained this morning in Toronto, “the Canada Pension Plan is letting people down and we need to deal with it.”

Kathleen Wynne held a meeting this morning with her Technical Advisory Committee, which includes Susan Eng, Vice President of Advocacy for  CARP – A New Vision of Aging. She says her experts tell her Canada is headed for a financial crisis because Canadians aren’t able to save for an adequate retirement. She repeated her position that she would prefer an enhanced Canada Pension Plan, but says Prime Minister Stephen Harper has said no. She adds that her opponents in the election campaign aren’t talking about it either.  “Tim Hudak has been completely silent on this issue.  He’s been almost as silent as Andrea Horwath, who didn’t talk about pensions for three years, and then stopped our plan in its tracks by not supporting our budget.  So if Stephen Harper and Andrea Horwath and Tim Hudak are not interested in advancing are not talking about a plan and are not choosing to lead on this, then I will.”  Susan Eng tells Zoomer Radio News, “the new Ontario Pension Plan is a key part of the Kathleen Wynne platform and since CARP has been on this case for the last six years, we had no difficulty supporting it.  In fact, we would invite the other parties to also support it, but it appears that the Conservatives are opposed to it, and the NDP are silent about it.”
